What to expect

What to expect, from the first call on

The uncertainty and mystique around hypnosis is completely understandable. Not knowing what happens in the room keeps a lot of people from ever booking. So here's everything you need to know, start to finish.

Step 1The free discovery session

It's a 30-minute conversation, by phone, Zoom, or at the office. My goal is to understand your situation, so I'll ask what's going on, what you've tried, and what keeps getting in the way. Then you can ask me anything you want.

By the end of our call, you'll know if I can help, what the program looks like, and what it costs. If we're a good fit, we can get you started right there on the call. If it isn't a fit, I'll be completely upfront and point you in a better direction. I don't want to accept anyone's money unless we're both confident I can help them reach their goals.

Step 2Your first session

Sessions are scheduled for 90 minutes, in person at the Lancaster office or over Zoom. The first part of the session we'll talk about your conscious mind, subconscious, and how they've worked together to create the challenge you've been facing.

Then I'll teach you principles or techniques to help you start taking back control. Most of the techniques are things you can use anytime, anywhere, and no one will know you're doing anything.

Then we'll switch gears into the hypnosis part of the session, which usually runs 30 to 45 minutes. The experience of hypnosis varies from person to person, and that's perfectly fine. Some people are aware the whole time, hearing everything I say, maybe even analyzing it as we go. Some people feel like they drift off or wake up refreshed. Others describe it as a guided daydream. That's all ok. How "deep" you go has very little to do with how much changes. What matters is that you're engaged.

You don't need to be certain this will work. Willing and curious is enough.

We finish by talking through what you noticed and what you'll use before we meet again. Then we'll schedule your next session.

Step 3Between sessions

This is where you put the work to use in your real life. You'll leave with three things:

  • Hypnosis recordings to listen to between sessions
  • Self-hypnosis techniques you learn in the session and use on your own
  • A way to reach me by text or email if something comes up

Spacing depends on what we're working on. For smoking, sessions are usually about a week apart, sometimes a little closer if you've got a difficult environment at home or work. For most other things, it's about every two weeks.

Whatever the spacing, you need time in between to use the tools and see what happens.

Step 4Every session after the first

I open every follow-up session with two questions:

"What's been good since the last time we met?"

"What's been not so good?"

The first shows us where things have already improved. The second tells us where to aim next. So each session is built around what happened in your life since the last one.

Still wondering about something?

Will I be asleep? Can you make me do things? What if I can't be hypnotized? Those are all answered in the hypnosis FAQ.

Ready to start?

The first step is a conversation. If you're tired of living this way, I'd like to talk.
